The Case of the Missing Cat

An original story by: Chloe Pang

Elizabeth had a Siamese cat called Brownie. Brownie won many prizes in the competitions it had attended.

One day, Brownie went missing. Elizabeth screamed when she could not find her cat.

Her neighbour Felix heard her and asked her from between the fences, “Why are you screaming so loudly?”

“Brownie went missing! I can’t find him! I had searched the whole house already,” answered Elizabeth. Felix immediately called the police.

The police came and found clues, footprints and fingerprints. They also questioned everyone and asked if they saw Brownie or anyone going into Elizabeth’s house to steal it. A neighbour who came back from work told the police he saw someone in Elizabeth’s garden at lunch time. The police brought back all the notes to investigate the matter.

After a few days, the police suspected it was Felix who stole Brownie because Felix was an actor and he can also disguise perfectly. He was brought to the police station for questioning. Felix was kept in jail for a day to help with the investigation.

The police decided to go into Felix house to check. “We are going to your house to check and see if Brownie is there,” Officer Sam told Felix they walked past one another. Felix was shocked but recovered almost immediately. The police arrived at Felix’s house and opened the door. They heard many cats meowing and purring. All the police were surprised.

They saw many cats in their cage. “Gosh! Is he a cat thief? But we can’t hear the cats purring outside,” exclaimed Sam. “I think his walls are soundproofed.”

The police took all the cats back to the police station. Sam questioned Felix again.

“Where and how did you steal all the cats?”

“I didn’t steal these cats. Maybe someone put them in my house when I was not at home.”

“Don’t tell me excuses. There are two police watching your house when you were away, there was no one going or coming from your house.”

“Well, figure it out yourself then.”

“Fine!!! I am not going to waste my precious time on you. Goodbye.”

“Bye. Thank you for wasting your precious time on me.”

Sam went away and reported to the inspector “He’s not going to tell me. Anyway, I’m gonna call Elizabeth to take her cat.”

“No need Sam, Peter called her already.”

“Okay thanks for telling me.”

Elizabeth arrived at the police station to collect her cat. She double checked her cat before bringing it back home.

“Thank you for finding back my cat,” Elizabeth thanked the officers.

But just as Elizabeth reached her house, there was another Brownie, waiting outside the gate! The two identical cats sat quietly in front of her, licking their paws as she stood there in total surprise.

“Guess I will have to bring you two back to the police station again,” sighed Elizabeth.

Elizabeth gone back to the station and reported she found her actual cat.

“Looks like you will need to find another cat owner then,” Elizabeth told the police.
