My Communication Skills Individual Level 3 Journey

Reflection by Ooi Zhi Qian

In 2024, I spent 7 months working on my Communication Skills Individual (CSI) Grade 3 examination preparations.

CSI Grade 3 to me was quite challenging so far. I was often told that I have problems with is my tone and lack of movements. During the recordings, my thoughts would sometimes scramble around, causing me to get confused and create dead air.

Another problem I faced during my preparations for the exams was making the presentation slides. I struggled quite a lot at first because I was both not very creative and new to Google Slides. But I eventually managed to overcome finished this by observing others and doing the required visuals by hand with some help from my brother and the other interns at LAW.

Even though I still had several of those problems by the end of the year, I could still see improvements especially in terms of my level of concentration and my ability to sound lively and fun. These are important because I would need to engage and converse with the examiner in a fun and lively way during my online examination session.

Next year, I would like to improve more in my delivery tone, my movement and use of space in the exam room, and in how I organise the points. There is still a lot of work to do, but it would be fun since I will get to talk with friends and even made new ones while working on my tasks.
